I’ll forgive you if you don’t believe the title, but it’s time I started putting Fraktured Reality back into gear. To start with I’m thinking of ideas for reviewing games. I think I may even make a complete site for it. I know there is heaps of game review stuff out there already, which is why I might just keep it a part Fraktured Reality.

The reviews would be a “twenty four seven” style. I’ll post my initial thoughts from playing the game in my first session of it. This would then be followed by a second report written after a week of playing the game. I think it’s a good way of looking at it, provided I can pull it off.

A proper restructure of the site is my eventual goal. I’m thinking it’ll have something like this:

  • My Personal Blog
  • “Out of Eleven” Movie reviews
  • “24 Seven” Game reviews
  • Personal Portfolio

These 4 elements would make up the complete Fraktured Reality site, all in their own sections. Perhaps they may each be on their own websites. These should include pretty much everything I’d post on the website .

I’m not sure how long it’ll take to get this going, but I think the faster the better. Wish me luck.

More posts coming soon.

…is the gold coast show day. Woohoo, 5 day weekend!

In other tomorrow news, the Tomorrow When The War Began movie comes out September second, not long left now! If it’s not totally awesome, it’s time to start some riots!

Firstly, I must apologise for neglecting the site. Secondly, fuck you for making me apologise. I don’t know why I don’t write much any more. I still want to, I just don’t seem to get the motivation any more. This is the third sentence in a row ending in any more.

So it’s a new semester now, and I have a new bunch of subjects. I’m going to be using Maya, Max, Inventor, Photoshop and probably a video editing program. I’m going to be pretty busy.

This On the list this semester:

- Write a script (Not sure on the length yet, potential to be huge).

- Design a household product.

- Design a better household product, packaging and a 3D Print. This will be cool.

- Create a Design Document and pre-visualisation for a game concept.

- Create a full cinematic or in-game level for said game.

- Some ethics bullshit I haven’t looked into yet.

Thankfully, and I’m seriously thankful for this, there’s no group work. I’ve ended up doing so many group assignments on my own in the past that it’s a real pleasure when I actually get the full credit for the work.

In other news, it’s swifty’s 21st tomorrow( Well, today. Hooray for being up late. ). Time to lose some much needed brain cells!

- I’ll try to update more often from now. Eventually, and this has been in the plans for ages now, this is to become the portfolio site for my work. I’ll get around to it one day!

That I finally updated again. It’s been a while, 2 months.

Edit: Oh right, I guess I should write a bit more than that.

Nah, fuck it.

Funny how most of my reviews seem to be in words, I wonder why.

So this semester, due to a colossal fuck up in my last semester, I’ll be taking 50 Credit point instead of 40. This translates in laymen’s terms to me getting fuck in the ass with a bulldozer. My work load is going to be insane. Though it’s not all bad, since so far my subjects are all pretty good.

My four subjects are:

  • 2501ICT Programming 3 – I’ve always been pretty good at programming, though it isn’t the career I want to take. This time we’re doing C++, finally a useful language. Shall be time consuming, but I should do well.
  • 2575QCA Parametric Modelling 2 – This one I was worried about, since I hadn’t done Parametric Modelling 1, but the lecturer has given us all the tutes from the first one, so I’ll be able to catch up. Shall be fun, but time consuming.
  • 3624ICT 3D Video Games Development – This one could still go either way, since it’s a new course, and they’re still working it out. They’ve picked an engine called ‘Hammer’, which is written entirely in Korean. It’s being translated for us, but I just know it will be full of engrish. It also means that the documentation for it will be limited to what they give us. On the plus side, it’s in C++, so I won’t have to learn yet ANOTHER GOD-DAMN FUCKING LANGUAGE.
  • 3002ICT Third Year Project – This one is the big one. 20 credit points instead of 10. It’s basically a year long course fit into a semester. The project that my group has chosen is a Rifle Simulation game. In flash. sigh.

Week 1 was fairly uneventful, other than getting the opportunity to look bad ass in front of all the clueless 1st years, which is always fun.

In other news, I have a jelly party to go to tomorrow. FUCKING WIN. That is all.

Over the last week I watched both of these films, but I’ve been putting off writing the reviews for no apparent reason other than I hate you. So, here we go.

Daybreakers first: Set in a near future world where much of the population have turned into vampires, but kept a working society very similar to our own, except based around night. Because vampires can not go out in daylight. END OF FUCKING DISCUSSION ON THAT POINT. Anyway, they require human blood to stay.. well, human. If they go too long without blood, they gradually devolve into a ‘subspecies’ of nasty creatures. Of course, the true human population is dwindling, and blood is running out. The story follows the life of a scientist trying to find a blood substitute, that’s having fuck all luck at it. But what he really discovers is something far worse…

…or better. The movie plays on the fact that the vampires are just normal people, now coping with immortality.. and the possibility of losing that very power. The concept is very cool, though I wish it have been fleshed out a bit. The ending is a bit ambiguous, and left me wanting a bit more closure, but it was a solid and entertaining ride.

I give the Daybreakers a solid 7 out of 11.

As a side note, the movie was filmed in my city, so I had some fun picking out various places around that I recognised.

Next up in the longest blog post I’ve written in quite sometime (I used to write a metric FUCKTONNE of pure comedy gold back on my old blog), is Sherlock Holmes. A gritty reboot of a widely known detective’s adventures in ye olde london town.

To be short and frank, I loved it. It had it’s silly moments (Hello complete lack of burns after a massive explosion), but hell what movie doesn’t these days. The story is engaging and not completely cliché,  I was actually drawn in and cared about the characters for a change. The villain is well done and rather mysterious, and the ending wrapped everything up in a neat little package. The set’s and costume’s were believable, and some of the tricky things Sherlock gets up to are simply genius.

Highly recommended. 9 out of 11.

By all accounts of pretty much everyone I know, 2009 was a rather ordinary year. I’d have to agree with this general consensus. To compensate for this I got really drunk on new years. Woo.

2007 was the year I finished school and found a girl, it was great.

2008 was the year I started University, and I still had a girl. I turned 18, got drunk. It was even greater.

2009 was a year of shit uni subjects, quiting my job (and not bothering to get another one) and losing said girl of the past 2 years. Among other things that sucked, there just wasn’t much to be excited about during it. Even turning 19, it’s such a nothing age.

2010 was brought in with a bang, is my final year of university, and at the end of it I’ll be entering the real world. Who knows what it shall bring. Hopefully it’s more alcohol and hookers. But I digress. I’ll be two decades old soon. I feel like I’m getting old already.

I think another factor in all this is that there’s nothing really new to look forward to anymore. The future is awesome, but we reached it about three years ago. Now all we have left is the inevitable apocalypse and more shitty blog postings from me.

Woohoo!
